Didn't know we were supposed to be sharing Christmas stories.
Prior to Christmas of 1968, I told Santa that about a Sterling Moss race set in the Sears Christmas catalog. Remember those? It came with the McLaren Elva and Chapparral Tjets. The Sears catalog also had a Hot Rod coupe and roadster in the slot car section. Put those on the wish list too. Must have been a pretty good boy that year. Probably not, Santa must not have been watching very well. Because the race set was under the tree and Hot Rods were in the stocking. That was the start of a long road of slot car addiction.

I like that story Bill. Much more fun when we check in and someone said something. You got the hook early I see. I had just missed out I believe growing up. My cousins all had them, I wasn't allowed to touch them lol.

I will get a lap in soon Al. I'm still in the cherishing phase. I'm still talking to it and petting it before it hits the road course.

My Grand Mother lived in Germany her life long. Going out to John F Kennedy Airport back in the day, you could go the roof and watch the planes come in. The sound of the engines, the smell of the Jet fuel, yeah you can't do that anymore. This one visit Oma shows up with a slot car set 1/32. Dad made plywood table, I put on a fire suite LOL. Talking with my Mom, she asked if I remember that gift from her Mother. I said "Oh yes, she gave one best gifts in my life, my love slot cars and racing."
Your right Sam, been doing a lot of lurking as of late, going thru some tihs. I got the muffles hooked up for the time being, Ill be back to open headers I swear.

That was the start of a long road of slot car addiction. Bill just a small thing but the great man’s name is spelled Stirling Moss. The greatest driver to have not one the world championship. I met him many times and he was a true gentleman. I was the secretary of the Vespa Club of Britain and he rode a Vespa to commute around London. I did in fact send him an invitation to my wedding about 28 years ago and I got a very nice reply stating that he would have liked to attend but he was not in the country at the time. I personally started racing slot cars in 1963 when I got an Arifix 1/32 set for Christmas and I was hooked. I have raced at several clubs with 1/32 cars including the serious brass chassis cars but, about 20 years ago I found HO cars and I have never looked back. I still have about 10 1/32 cars but they are not raced as there are no clubs within easy reach so all my energy is put into the little ones. I have about 150 road race cars that I have customised in the correct race liveries and about 200 AFX cars plus my drag cars. I will never go back as I have found such great friends on this forum.

Clive, What a privilege to have a friendship with such a racing legend. Thank you for the heads up on the correct spelling of his name.

Sam, the bazooka guy was in the package and along with a few other goodies. He is now on my drag car storage unit to deter any prying eyes.
