How do you guys stage these top fuel dragsters! Found that staging is erratic when attempting to use the little spoiler at the nose, over the sensor, to stage. Been staging with the chassis over the starting sensor, to avoid that problem.
When running 2 TF cars of similar length, everything will be equal. Racing against a regular bodied car will give an advantage to the TF.
Curious how you guys handle this?

I have not attempted to run a dragster yet, but I have wondered if the tiny front wing will consistently trip the finish line sensor at speed.

Yes, the small front end on the dragsters causes problems with the IR or photocell sensors! I use a tiny bit of masking tape that helps block the IR so that a reading can take place. Mine are so sensitive that in the speed trap it was picking up the small space between the front wing and front wheel. This would give an erroneous speed reading. Bill I set my Trackmate system up so that it starts timing when the 2nd stage sensor is tripped, (cars are staged before stage sensor 2) and both stage lights come on when you cover stage sensor 1. This is something you can do with a Trackmate, but I don't know if other systems have this feature. If timing is started by the rear of the car, you will get a false reading as it is starting off the rear of the car and the longer car will have an advantage as far as ET reading for a qualifying pass. It will not effect the win loss at the end of the strip.

It works on drc Mike. Only glitch we may have is the segments may be wrong. Drc .042 I believe the segments are only getting fired once. So that should fix that. I still have the older drc on the main track, been meaning to update it. Have .042 on a autoworld track but didn't try a dragster when it was set up.

I had the same problem of the sensors being too sensitive. Ended up putting tape on the cars to work...

I have the Trackmate DP3000HO and have not had any issues with any body style. Dragsters, Roadsters, Altereds, etc. have run flawlessly. I also ran the Trackmate Basic before that and also never experienced any issues. The Slot Dragon on the other hand gave me nothing but problems with false readings, etc. I also believe I have my stage sensors set like Dave's. The Trackmate Systems have both been awesome!

The type of sensor along with the location of the sensor is a bit touchy. The domed type sensors I have found need to be just a hair above the track surface or level with it. Also they need to be placed nice and straight. If tilted it can throw things off a bit. Question on the Trackmate sensors for Dave and JJ. So the car covers the STAGED sensor correct? And it trips to start the timing clock after the entire car passes or clears that sensor? Thanks

For proxy racing. Wouldn't it make more sense for the timer to start when you hit the start button? If the car dies at the starting line. The timer keeps going.

Ken - tring to get info on how that system works. Sounds to me that the car must cover the STAGED sensor and when the GO lights up the power is applied and the car then clears the sensor which activates the timer. Could be wrong but if that is the way it works then the length of the car can determine the total time. We will see!
