The type of sensor along with the location of the sensor is a bit touchy. The domed type sensors I have found need to be just a hair above the track surface or level with it. Also they need to be placed nice and straight. If tilted it can throw things off a bit. Question on the Trackmate sensors for Dave and JJ. So the car covers the STAGED sensor correct? And it trips to start the timing clock after the entire car passes or clears that sensor? Thanks Alan I previously posted incorrectly but have corrected it. I have 2 stage sensors....pre staged and staged. When I stage the cars I have the pre staged sensor covered and the front of the car just before the staged sensor but not covered. The timer starts when the staged sensor is covered.  Pre Stage and Stage sensors  Cars are staged in this picture. Christmas tree has both stage lights on. This is a setting in Trackmate. |

How do you guys stage these top fuel dragsters! Found that staging is erratic when attempting to use the little spoiler at the nose, over the sensor, to stage. Been staging with the chassis over the starting sensor, to avoid that problem. When running 2 TF cars of similar length, everything will be equal. Racing against a regular bodied car will give an advantage to the TF. Curious how you guys handle this? Bill I may have missed this but what type of timing system and lighting are you using? |

Bill - the way JJ has his trackmate setup works well. Car length does not enter into the equation as the car is covering the second sensor which starts the timing clock and also establishes the RT.
I have a simuliar setup except I am using the prestage, stage and a start sensor ( sort of like the NHRA guard beam ).
I am using DRC which I have made mods to.

I don't use any pre stage stuff on drc. Just the start sensor. I line the car just before the starting sensor... hit the light...
As soon as a car covers the sensor it gives a r.t. time from green light until car covers sensor.
As soon as car front covers finish sensor its over.

My setup is the same as JJs.
Using both stage sensors starts the timing with the rear of the car. That's why we do not use that setup.

It changes the ET so that qualifying would be effected. Would not change the race winner.

Dave - care to explain further? Thanks Dave said his setup is the same as mine. I thought I explained it well already. Covering the stage sensor starts the timer. Length of car doesn't matter. He said that using both sensors and starting timer with the rear of the car is not what we do? |
