We never did get to see the brisket lol... I see it was on Gnomes mind also. I bet it was awesome. I didn't know anyone was interested in seeing it. I was excited to do it and it came out really good. I'm loving this Traeger pellet grill. I only took one picture. I started it at 9am Thursday morning when I started the race and it finished at about 3am Friday morning. This pic was taken after it had rested for about 4 hours. I separated the point and the flat. Anyway this was the finished product.

Oh yha, that is looking good. Brisket and dragracing you can't beat it. Don't be afraid to slide those pictures in JJ, we can all appreciate that.

Well, now... NOW there's pics of the brisket. The Tyrora Vega just needed a little extra motivation. Waggle a tidbit of the smoked brisket in front of it and things may have ended differently. Threatening to park it next to Christine is one thing, but pretty much anything coming out of a smoker is another matter all together. I'm betting the Tyrora would have shed a few tenths of an ohm to try to make up some time, lol. I don't think I did too bad for a new guy with a 5.6 ohm dash arm. Plenty of room for improvement in both parts and setup, and I expect to see some lower times the next time it hits the track. Some changes are in the works.

Thank you everybody for the good words! If you guys and gals didn't enjoy the race then it would not be worth doing. Also thanks once again to those that sponsored/supported the race and took the time to build and send cars! It is a privilege for me to have your cars for the weekend to race with. I understand the amount of trust that is necessary for that. All of the cars ran well so kudos to all of the builders. I took the evening off last night and have started packing the cars tonight. It will take me several nights to get this done so I am shooting for mailing everything Thursday and Friday. I will keep everyone updated.
Now to focus ahead on The 2024 Smoky Mountain Spring Nationals

Thanks to Jeff for his efforts on running the race and for posting all the updates. It was fun to check the progress and see how my first attempt with a car that hadn't seen much track time (I tracked the current draw at a constant voltage while I ran it unloaded between making tweaks). I wanted to ask about how the reaction time works as I'm going to be setting up a timer on a 1/8-mile strip for testing (also, any additional tips are welcome for next time). My reaction time seemed pretty slow, so I'm not sure if the software already knew me, if my car needed a tap to get going or if it was something else in play. Thanks again, it's fun to reconnect with something that goes back to receiving an AFX set for Christmas 1973.

By the way.......I remember that Christmas in 1973 and the AFX set as well . I just don't remember if it was out of the Sears or Montgomery Ward catalog.

You young men got your sets for Christmas of 73. My Sears catalog set arrived Christmas of 68. Drooled over that set in the Christmas catalog for months. Also got a Hot Rod coupe and roadster that same Christmas. They remain some of my favorites to this day. Bought many cars and a race set from the Sears, Pennys and Wards Christmas catalogs for my boys over the years. It’s sad a that they are all history now. Always look forward to those catalogs.

Yeah, I used to drool over the slot car tracks in those catalogs, too. I got a Tyco TCR race set for Christmas around '79 or so. Ran it until the pickups were worn slam out. I still have that set, but have not run it in years. I started picking up stuff here and there over the years, but it wasn't until recently that I actually got room to set stuff up and leave it in place. I'm working on a 1/8 mile strip so I can actually test my cars before they go somewhere. No room for the 1000 foot without encroaching into the living room and dining room. Pretty sure my bride would not appreciate that.

I still have the box. Most of the track connectors are broken, though. My father's work still had the family in England in 1973, so this was Christmas 1974.

mrrcape, after looking at the screenshot of your race. I am of the opinion that you had an excessive amount of wheel spin. What were you using for rear tires? Also there needs to be a slight amount of clearance between the wheelie bar and the track. Describe the setup of your car. I am sure with a little tuning and the right setup we can knock a lot ot time off your et.

Race 8 Racin Rob blue Willys vs Mrrcape 55 Chevy The '55 is struggling today and will need a miracle to get past Rob. The blue Willys slows slightly but gets the win nonetheless and moves on. Mrrcape, The reaction time and 60' time are a reflection of how well the tires hook up and gain traction. This is a combination of clean tires and magnetic down force. Were you using rubber tires or silicone? Rubber does not play nicely with silicone and will lose traction on a track where silicone is the standard. Silicone tires also pick up dust like a magnet and need to be cleaned regularly. If I had to wager, I'd say one of these two scenerios explains your car's performance on the reaction and 60' time.
