My lesson learned about Tyco stock class racing; Never bring a HP7 to a 440 fight ๐ It's not a bad chassis. I might take on the challenge of making one run. The 440 is a better design, however. Jeff, yes, a lot of very nice cars entered.

My lesson learned about Tyco stock class racing; Never bring a HP7 to a 440 fight ๐ You think thatโs bad, I actually tried to build a Tyco Record car out of an HP7! Didnโt work out so well but it was fun experimenting. Wanted to just install a hot arm in a can motor. It was fast but trying to get it to hook up was a booger. Would have worked better in one of the old metal chassis Tycos but I didnโt have one. One highlight of the project was making a replacement traction magnet from styrene stock and a pair 3mm magnets.

Congratulations ๐ Jeff,๐ฏ% Great looking body for sure ! El camino bill Congratulations ๐ The stock 440 class was the most difficult for sure, A little Dry Humor ๐ค I was wondering why there were no more 440's left on Ebay. How many 100's of 440's did you run down the track before finding that Diamond 440 ๐ It was a low mileage, like new used Davey Allison stock car, sitting in the garage just waiting to be pulled out and given a chance to shine. It was one of about 20 or so that were in moth balls. Ran every 440 and 440 X2 down the track. That particular car was the fastest by far. Decided to run it in stock and tweak some others for SS. Kudos to Dave once again for giving us an excuse to get the Tycos out and play with them! Hope we do this sometime in the future. Definitely a nice change of pace.

Congrats Jeff on best of show. Very nice Monte! Fin, Holy Crap! I was definitely not expecting .2s... That's crazy quick. Nice build! Dave, thanks for hosting! There were some really close races.

I must admit that I did not think there would be so many record attempt cars, and that they would be that quick and fast. I checked with Fin and asked if he wanted to challenge my fastest chassis. Then I ran them and got a surprise, the green 55 Chevy's Lexan body was blasted off while stopping but it ran a great 71 MPH pass, Fins car also made a great 68 MPH run well into the .2s. That sure shows that a Tyco can run with any other chassis with the proper mods. Tyco vs G3

71 and 68 MPH is pretty amazing for a slot car of any brand! Those babies a flat out moving!
If it's not top secret, it would be interesting to know which type of Tyco chassis Fin used.
Mine was the slowest of the record chasers but I was pretty proud of it. I believe that was the fastest inline car to come out of the SC shop to date. Just keeping it all together was quite an accomplishment.

Bill, yours was one of the first cars I ran that beat the former record. I thought it was going to keep the record.

I did not post a picture of Fins car. It was a 440X2 with brass crown, steel pinion, silifoam tires. Don't know what magnets, armature were used. It used a Lexan body.

My humble apologies Dave. I meant here as in NitroSlots. Not your race thread. I was trying to respond to ECBill's comment. There are usually secrects in every aspect of drag racing from 1:1, all the way down the scales. Ask Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins to share some of his secrets, and you'll only end up finding out why they call him "Grumpy".

I watched Jenkins progress thru the early days of Pro Stock when they ran actual production cars. I had a couple of 67-68 Camaros my self. Starting with a 67 with a 350 to a 68 with a 632. The latter ran as quick as 8.50s @ 154 in the 1/4. 68 Camaro with big M 632

My old boss used to be a top Canadian Pro Stock contender. He went to the USA to try his luck. He saw Bill Jenkins at a bar and offered to buy him a drink. Bill told him where to go, and walked away. My old boss just thought to himself "and there you have it".
