A/Gas Round 3 Eliminations We're down to the Final Four in A/Gas at the NTRA World Finals. The Ohio Mafia is looking good with three cars in the semifinals. Can SKR find his missing horsepower and make it to the final? While we're waiting for the cars to get back to the staging lanes, we've got a special exhibition for you: Yes, it's Arnold "The Governator" Schwarzenegger in his politically incorrect Hummer, taking on the Oscar Meyer weinermobile. Folks, you can only see stuff like this in California. We've got an update from Aurora Divine in the SKR pits. What's happening, Aurora? "Wow, have you ever seen such a big weiner? That's really exciting! Oh, Sam says the braids are arcing on his pickups, and he's got bad burn marks, so they're giving them a good cleaning before the next round." Thanks for that, Aurora. In all of the excitement over the Wienermobile, our ace photographer Otto Focus missed the shot of the semifinal match between SKR and Derwood. Well, what the heck, you've seen a yellow Willys before, right? Anyway, we'll paint a vivid word picture for you: The two cars raced, SKR won with a .653 (how'd that shoe cleaning work out, Sam?), and Derwood lost with a .690. Moving right along, 440GTX is racing himself in the other semifinal round. He's got a one-way ticket to the final, which car will it be? The Dodge Father rips off its third straight five, a .592 at 23.19 mph to advance to the money round, while the candy red Willys slows to a 1.056 at 11.82. Looks like it could be another case of burned braids, Aurora.

A/Gas Final Round Pit reporter Ted Tappet has just radioed in that there's something strange going on in the staging lanes before the A/Gas final. Ted, fill us in! "Not sure what this is all about, but there's this guy they call 'Little Tony' from Ohio who drives around in a black hearse with custom MAFIA license plates. Anyway, Tony said he wanted to have a 'friendly conversation' with SKR before the final round, you know, discuss whether it would really be a good long-term career move to beat the Dodge Father, and how if he'd really like to see Chima again, maybe he'd better take a little snooze. He also said something about fitting Sam for cement shoes if he won, which I understand are very fashionable in Tony's part of town." Well, thanks for that Ted, whatever it is you're talking about. (Gee, where do they come up with these kids?) Anyway, we've got a race to run to decide the A/Gas class title at the NTRA Finals. The two yellow Willys stage, SKR in the right lane, the Dodge Father in the left. At the green, the Dodge Father is gone, and he takes the A/Gas crown with a .591 at 23.67 mph, his fourth straight five in eliminations. SKR sputters to a .710 at 17.99. Congratulations to 440GTX for his second win of the race at the NTRA World Finals! All SKR had to say to Aurora Divine after the final was "Burned braids." Did Little Tony get inside his head? Only Sam knows for sure, and he's not talking.

Match Race Round 1 We now interrupt our regularly scheduled race report to bring you breaking news on the Match Race of the Century between SKR and Demon. Let's go to roving reporter Aurora Divine for the back story. "This is the showdown we've been waiting for. Big Daddy against Shirley? Grumpy against Dyno Don? The Snake vs. the Mongoose? Well, this blood match between Demon and SKR puts them all in the shade. We're talking Mopar versus Ford, Florida swamps versus Rocky Mountain peaks, Black Sabbath versus John Denver. This a race they're going to talk about for a long time." The racers have agreed on the ground rules. It's MM/PS legal, 21 grams minimum, and 27 sizzling volts. The power supply is turned up, and lights dim across California. Pit reporter Ted Tappet has more about Demon's plans for domination. "As you know, Demon's regular driver, Psycho, can't get clearance to cross state lines. But Demon had a back-up plan: Jason, your worst nightmare on Friday the 13th, or any other night. Jason normally doesn't go out much, and when he does, the court requires that he be accompanied by an armed guard and a doctor to make sure that he takes his meds. Simpson made a special combination strait jacket and fire suit for him for this race." With the niceties out of the way, it's time to race for the title of Lion King. First round coming up. They stage, bumping in carefully. The green flashes, and they're off like rockets. SKR's Motorcraft Mustang draws first blood, taking the win with a .390 e.t. at 41.07 mph. Demon comes up second best with a .421 at 37.88. It's run what ya brung, and it looks like Demon didn't bring enough.

Match Race Round 2 SKR has the first win in this best 2-out-of-3 match race, another will put this race in the history book. Let's go to our reporters for updates from the pits. "Ted Tappet here, and it looks like Demon is turning up the wick for the second round. All he'd say was, 'Needs more bottle,' and I guess you could say he came to the right place. And for all you animal lovers out there, we've got Demon and Richard's new fan club here at Lions, too -- that's Rose, Iris, Daisy, Joy, and Flossy. Back to you in the booth, Thunderlungs." "Aurora Divine here with SKR. Sam, it looks like you're changing engines for the second round. Is this a scheduled change, or did you hurt your No. 1 motor?" "Well, I think that Demon might be using NOS. I'm not really sure, but there's something kinda suspicious going on. He says those tanks are just filled with Red Bull for his driver so he gets a good reaction time, but I'm not so sure he's telling the truth. So I'm not gonna take any chances, we just had this little ol' Ford Pro Stock motor in the back of the truck and we thought it might be worth a try." The racers swap lanes for Round 2. Sam can put it away with a win; Jason needs a victory to stay in the game. The lights come down -- and Sam throws it away with a red light! Too much Red Bull or too much pressure, take your pick. He went red by .033, and that really hurts because he ran a .414/40.34 mph to the Dodge's .447/37.26. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

Match Race Round 3 This race will decide who will reign as the Lion King, and who wil be Dog Meat for the rest of the year. Both drivers have one win each, so it's all on the line. Wait a minute! We're now hearing there's a thrash in the SKR pits. Ted, what's happening? "John, there's panic in the SKR camp. The car slowed down in the second round, and then the safety crew found the wheelie bars at half-track. Looks like they pulled out of the chassis on the launch. The crew brought the bars back to Sam's truck, but it looks bad. There's a crowd gathering around the Mustang, the clock on the timing tower is counting down, and they're frantically calling for 5-minute epoxy, super glue, and accelerator. Demon's already pulled his car up to the starting line, and if SKR doesn't get the wheelie bars repaired in time, he's toast." That's drama, race fans! Demon and Jason are laughing and joking, they think they've got this one in the bag. But wait! SKR's pulling into the staging lanes. The crew is still working frantically on the wheelie bars to get them adjusted and they're hoping the glue will hold. Sam's getting ready, he doesn't know whether the bars will withstand a launch -- he could be looking at an instant deslot if they don't. The Tree comes down. Sam's out first, he's going for it, wheelie bars or not. The win light comes on . . . in SKR's lane! Sam takes the title of Lion King with a .391 e.t. at a slowing 32.94 mph while Demon's Dodge is second across the finish line with a .428 e.t. at 37.26. What a race! There's celebration in the SKR pits. The crew is singing John Denver songs and drinking lemonade. Meanwhile the mood has turned nasty over at Demon's. Jason's on his way back to the asylum for the criminally insane, and Demon is getting ready for the long haul back to Orlando in his new transporter. Things aren't working out too well for Demon's new best friends, Iris, Rose, and Daisy, either. They'll soon be appearing in a grocery store near you. Look for them in the frozen food section under Pork Pies.

Congrats Sam! Good Race! OK, I got another question. After sticking around here since I got home from work at about 7:15 pm (3 hours ago), and not seeing anything for like the last hour and a half, are we running the NFC cars tonite? Or are we doing those at a 'later date'? Or, did I just 'miss' something? Don't wanna sound impatient, but since that's the only class I have a car in, I kinda have a 'vested interest' ya know? Nostalgia Funny Car Round 1 We've made it to the Nostalgia Funny Car, the last eliminator on the card at the NTRA World Finals. NF/C racers aren't running for championship points this weekend, but this is the class the California fans have come to see. The pits are filled with fantastic plastic, Funny Cars that still look like their production counterparts -- stretched, chopped, and molded, but still recognizable as real cars. The eliminator ladder is tough, with key matchups in every round. With 14 cars in the field, there will be a bye for the winner of the No. 1/No. 14 race in the second round. We begin with No. 1 qualifier 440GTX and his Dodge Father Challenger up against the unpainted Cougar of Fordcowboy. The Mopar takes the win and earns the second-round single with a 1.087/11.98 mph pass to the big cat's 2.317. The next pair to the line is Wood's Mustang and Nosubfor3's handsome orange Pontiac Racing Can-Am. Ford power prevails with Wood taking the win at 1.175 to the Pontiac's 1.633. Scottman's Rat Corvette is already a crowd favorite in its red oxide primer, but Nosubfor 3's Quarter Pounder had the performance advantage in qualifying. The yellow Vega keeps its edge, taking the win at 1.158/11.01 to Scottman's 1.694/6.35. Next pair up is Bluegnuoy's Vega and Ninjatek's Can-Am. It's Chevy power all the way, with the Vega taking the win at 1.168 to the Poncho's 1.723. Bondoman2k's sharp Can-Am is next up alongside Eddiebee's Vega. The USAir-sponsored Pontiac flew to the win with a 1.235 to Eddie's 1.342. Race fans, this is one beautiful car in the right lane. From central California comes Hairycanary's yellow Firebird, a reincarnation of the legendary Hairy Canary Valiant. This car is almost too pretty to run, but Hairycanary is a racer. A special note -- Hairycanary has donated NINE of his resin bodies as prizes at the NTRA World Finals. More details to come during the lavish award ceremony! In the other lane is Derwood's primered Challenger, not a candidate for Best Appearing trophy this weekend. Derwood's obviously spent more time on performance than paint, and he puts the 'Bird away with a 1.306 to the Canary's 1.450. The final pair in Round 1 is a classic NF/C matchup -- Ninjatek's Jungle Jim Nova vs. 440GTX's Color Me Gone Charger. It's Jungle himself in the blue Nova, and Roger Lindamood in the Dodge. Well, JJ and Jungle Pam can start the party early, because Lindamood was already gone with a 1.211 to the Chevy's 1.811.

Nostalgia Funny Car Round 2 Eight cars left, and the competition is getting intense. Well, maybe not for this guy. No. 1 qualifier 440GTX gets the bye run in the second round after defeating Fordcowboy's Cougar in the opening stanza. The Dodge Father puts down a 1.119 just for fun. It's Ford vs. Chevy in the next pairing, with Wood's Mustang squaring off with Nosubfor3's Vega. Wood wins it on a holeshot! He cuts the Tree down and his 1.189 is good enough to hold off Nosubfor3's 1.169 at the finish line. Hey, that's drag racing. Bondoman2k's Pontiac stages alongside Bluegnuoy's Vega in this GM family fight. It's a great race, with the Vega taking a narrow win over the Can-Am, 1.172 to 1.225. The Ohio Mafia stars in the final race of Round 2 with Derwood's grey ghost up against 440GTX's classic Charger. The Challenger is out first and pulling away in the middle of the track, then the Charger drives him around to take the win, 1.243 to 1.428.

Nostalgia Funny Car Round 3 And then there were four -- the semifinal round of Nostalgia Funny Car at the NTRA World Finals. Can anyone stop the Dodge Father? It's up to Wood to keep the man out of the winner's circle. He drills the Dodge on the line, but can't hold off the Hemi at the top end. 440GTX drives around the Ford to take the win at 1.092/11.44 mph and advance to the final round. The Mustang gave him a race with a 1.217 at 9.68 mph. The other semifinal match pits 440GTX's Color Me Gone Charger against Bluegnuoy's Vega. The Chevy has matched the Dodge's performance throughout eliminations, now Bluegnuoy's got to deliver. And he does, putting the Dodge on the trailer with a stout 1.146/10.28 to Lindamood's 1.295/9.29.
