I remember some of the dipping from the Orange County Chopper, seems it's a surprise with every dip... I got this channel saved...RM

I know what decal program you are using. What size do you print them with? Do you measure the body or just wing it?

I know what decal program you are using. What size do you print them with? Do you measure the body or just wing it? Vince I wrap car bodies different ways depending on what I want. If just making a pattern and adding sponsor decals later I just measure area I am covering and increase size slightly. I then overlay a clear mask on the body and trace area for decal. Then I lay the mask on the printed decal and cut out exact area. If I am including sponsors, names etc. I scan the body and use Paint.net to do all the work. Then repeat with mask. By tracing area on car body with mask and overlaying onto decal you ensure that position of decal on the body will be correct. I am assuming that you know how to use Paint.net or a program like it.

Here is a pic of my humble hydro dipping set up in the shop. The tub for dipping, my air brush for spraying A &B activators. Wrong brush selected. I switched to high volume external brush, not scene. A digital thermometer did not work. I bought a new one at Wally World, a Taylor goes -40 to 450. These are tools you will need except printer not shown. The rest is just working out your technique. That is all trial and error.
Here is one of my Daytona Charger Pro Mods after hydrodipping and clear coated. I went psychedelic on this one. I finally have my technique down. Like most things worth learning you will make a lot of mistakes. When you get the results you are looking for that feeling of success is hard to beat....

Here is a 57 Chevy that I used Paint.net on. I have always thought it would be cool to do more complicated paint schemes using my laptop. The advantage if you screw up just delete and start over vs screwing up paint. So here is my humble attempt at a fade with flames using a base white. I then use white and clear decals to finish up.

Cool NAPA Vette...The Daytona may have a little too much mixed colors for me, but that's just me... still a very interesting technique... Now, ya hit a nerve with the 57 fade!!! Keep em coming...RM

Great looking customs. Looks like your getting a handle on both methods. Robert can Paint.net make the images transparent so you can layer them on top of each other? WIll the software allow you to change the image color?I am using a combo of Power Point and MS Picture-It for my images. One will do what the other won't. And vis-verse.Thanks for sharing.

Vince, it will layer that is how I did the 57 Chevy. I have also changed colors on Testor decal stripes. There are a ton of apps for Paint.net also.

When doing these patterns you have to pay attention to scale as it looks on the car body.

Here are a couple of pics of a project I just finished. The first photo is of the Autodesk model I designed for a new motorcycle front wheel. The old wheel was a painted resin cast wheel. The new has and o-ring. The second photo is of the finished 3D printed wheel.

That's amazing work on the wheels Robert, I still like the hippy trippy Daytona, the colors,,,,, the colors,,,,,, Yeah it's wild, the technique is wild, who dreamed this stuff up? If it's ok with you, I'm gonna follow your work here at Nitro, rather than sci. I appeciate how you've answered my questions over there.
Thanks, Mike
