JB Weld is good stuff. I bet it will hold up. I'm chewing up the cluster gear too. Last stock one actually had a twist to it. Brush area is also weak. I like what you did with the brush cups. Only way to go.

The brush cups are supposed to act as a heat sink and these hot motors are bound to make plenty of heat. I should have listened to Jim and let him put in the advance and put the cups at neutral. Learned a lot in this build and will likely start from scratch on another chassis before the Summer race. Kicking around some ideas for the back end to fix the shortcomings there.

finishing up my FED. Looking forward to getting it back here so I can put more laps on it and do more testing. I didn't get my tires ready for the bearing chassis so I'll be sending the old one. I'll make my zoomies easy to remove since the track is narrow. Funny, I thought everything was bigger in Texas.... I guess the drag strips didn't get the memo

Lol....the budget didn't get the memo. Maybe someday I'll get an elite track, but for now this is working well. Hopefully we won't have any clearance issues. Last time it was ninja's car that caused us to have to modify your car. We don't like to do that unless we absolutely have too. Sam your car looks awesome. Can't wait to see it in person. Good luck.

And the fun continues... My FED survived its first race, some mistakes were made and I was rushed at the end together it in the mail. Changes for the next race are a set of Eagle's finest for the rear to eliminate the go kart look and give it some speed on top. Noticed that one of the pickups was barely touching the rail by the wear marks so they will be replaced by longer versions and the front of the chassis will be lowered. Height is a problem on this one as the rear axle is lowered and once the bigger tires are added it will make it worse. Oh, and no more com drops.

FED has wheelie bar and lead has been removed. Stays on track now. See what happens this time.

Couple other question. What axle are you useing? I have a BSRT .059 axle and the knurl hits the bearing so I can't center the axle. What gear did you use?

Nosub, I had the same problem using a Tyco axle. I chucked it up in a drill and used a file to remove the knurled area from part of the axle to make it fit.

you'll have to grind some of the knurl off. Chuck it up in a dremel and use a metal file or if you have access to a lathe, its easier. Still playing with the set up. Wizzard gears are small in diameter and will fit. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to play with this set up yet. I'm in the middle of building my new FED now since I gave mine away. Next weeks proxy race will be my first run with it.

Hey guys, two cents, hope it helps.
When I put crown in fed had to drill out one side of chassis (same size as nub on gear). Nub became sort of an axle bushing. If you had a piece of brass (maybe even plastic) tubing that bearing fit then tubing could be glued into chassis and used to widen space between bearings, giving needed clearance. Might be easier than removing material from axels.

Repairs and adjustments made to my FED and its ready to hit the road to Colorado with a couple days to spare. New taller tires and wheels for the rear end, narrowed the front end and had to add a spacer to lower the front of the chassis due to the new taller tires. Had to replace the rear axle as the original was bent, might have been from the crash with Bondo's FED at the last race. And, I took a tip from Eagle and added a little paint, my first attempt at flames and I'm not completely happy with them but the next one will be better. That's my Gasser entry in the background, also ready to go.

OH THE HORROR!! Just broke the spring tab on the fastest F.E.D. (for me). That chassis has the metal gears and ball bearings in it no way to just slap one together. I am going to use Black Max and hope I get lucky.
