Finished up the next two truck projects at AJR. I have been wanting to do these color combos for awhile. The green and black was actually what the Helter Skelter C10 was supposed to look like until I screwed the black fade up. I'm starting to get really frustrated in the last step of my customs. For some reason now my decals are starting to bubble during the clear coat. I set all of the decals on both of these and started with a light "sealing" coat of clear...but they still bubbled in some spots. I will keep working at it. Theres nothing that can be done with that after it happens. Other than that I'm happy with the way they turned out. Colors used China Glaze lacquer polish "In the Limelight" and "Frostbite". Duplicolor lacquer Gloss black.

Do you think the clear coat may be reacting with whatever type of clear was used in making the decals? My dad, who was pretty good at painting cars told me that when you spray a coat of lacquer, is wets (penetrates) all of the previous coats applied. Usually its safe to put other types of paint over lacquer but not the other way around. The trucks look great!

I believe that to be true that's why I spray a light sealer coat on but it obviously did not work. I'm using the same decals I've been using for awhile now. Even out of the same batch and haven't always had this problem. But my clear has changed and it is more of an aggressive automotive type lacquer. I was using another type of clear to seal with and I might have to go back to that before the main clear coat. I will figure it out hopefully sooner rather than later.

Trucks looking good Jeff! The decal problem if you are getting a good set sounds like a chemical reaction. Just my guess, hey I use water base products only now what do I know.

Thanks guys for the good word as always! Robert I guess so....I've found that each type of paint, whether it be acrylic, lacquer, or enamel, each have their own set of issues. I've grown to like the lacquers and have the least amount of problems with them. I have been given tips by some of our premier customizers and just haven't got my technique and products right yet.

I was told by a guy that sold me some decals on ebay that he does all his paint work to include clearcoat before the decals. Then after decals he puts a light coat of acrylic floor polish like future over everything. Never tried it just passing info

Laid down the clearcoat on one of two current custom projects. The Hairy Canary '63 Corvette Pro Mod. Did not have the decal issues on this one that I've had recently. I tried doing a couple of things differently during the application of the clear. I'm happy with the results, but I'm ready to find another urethane clear.

Jeff I’m a little late things have been really busy, but I’m loving the colors and really liking those flames. It’s sitting perfect too. Glade there was no problems with the clear. Rick
