Neither did I, it goes to show that we are never to old to learn . I will definitely give that a try.

Never tried that either. I did try boiling the brushes in water but that did not work.

have you tried burning the oil out of the motor brushes? I hold the brush with a tweezer and put a flame to it until it turns orange then set it somewhere safe too cool. clean the soot off and it will be nearly like new if it is not worn too thin. some people use a chisel tip soldering iron instead of a flame. it works. if you already knew this, maybe someone else didn't. always like to see your posts. Yes we have tried all various ways of cleaning brushes, we have tried burning with flame, with hot irons, drenching with various cleaners , all with limited success there is nothing like fitting new ones. They just need to bed in and your away, we have noted this may take 1 or 2 meetings.

I never had much luck reviving brushes either. They will let the car run but not to well.

Ok enough of talking about brushes, lets go racing, its the final night this year at Sandfly Alley, should be a cracker, cleaned the play room on tuesday night and cleaned and prepped the track last night, all good to go. Poor ole Pony boy wont be in attendance as he is working, so no points to him. Not sure what the other racers have been up to, will report back tomorrow.

Well that was a blast, a late finish but a great time had by the 6 racers that turned up. With no pony boy to spoil the party the spoils were shared out, sand fly team came away with 1st and 2nd in truck, 1st and 2nd in nostalgia, 1st in pro mod, but let the big ole red light got me in the inline and top fuel finals, 2nd in pro stock and t jet. The cars are performing better after tuning a week ago so should be on the money next week, when we are of to Camp mothers Moonshine Park.

Well here we go again, for the last time this year its racing at Moonshine park. The sandfly cars have been left alone all week and should be on target tonight. The weather should be warm so the times should be fast. Havent heard any thing from the other races but i would imagine pony boy went to secret testing with the will's boys. Have been a bit preoccupied this week with the new project, sorting through the boxes of stuff and looking for a drive train. Its a Bedford Debonair camper van from the 1960's, should be a blast when complete. Will report back tomorrow with some results.

Looks like you are taking on quite a project. How about a small block Chevy of any vintage, are they as popular in NZ as they are here.

Electric conversion van! Normal steering... but a slot car trigger for acceleration! I also like the extra steering wheel for back-seat drivers.

Boy that was a nights racing, ole camp mother Grant let the ship sail with no one at the helm. The sandfly crew were late due to cooking the pork flap on the bbq, was very tasty tho. On to the racing, we did well with chicken dinners in truck with the 52 chev and pro mod with the ghost. A few 2nds were had and a bunch of 3rds. Next week we are at Impala raceway, just two weeks of pain left in the year.
