Drag Mates
I have enjoyed being a member for around one year,
It had been around 53 years since I had my hands on a
"Thunder Jet".
I would carry my 2 cars to a home made track 1 or 2 times a week,
Traded for very junky parts to build them with.
Our cars were super fast๐ค 2 to 4 mph we did not know "ET"
It was 1967 He did not come and visit the move industry yet.
We had a wind up stop watch and a #2 pencil to figure out
who's car was the fastest,
๐ค who could afford a Cheetah,
think a 5mph record.
Thank you Dave for bring me in to Nitro Slot,
This post was Encouraged by the posts about making rules more important then having fun, when i started with Nitro Slot I
so missed Recognizing anything about rules.
And before being a member I bought a few cars from Dave.
Racing them at the kitchen table with The Grand Kiddo's
After months of fun in the Kitchen,
Was informed "New Rules" ๐ค Kitchen table for visiting family and eating
Yep and the board gaming teenagers,20's,30's,40's,
Of our 10 Children and 24 Grand Kiddo's.
Sad to say the age group for slot cars were Myself and Grand Kiddo's
Age 2 - 15 Years old.
Before I was a member i bought my frist Tyco Pro Brass Pan, from Dave
Wish I rember what he said about them.
He was very Truthful about my choice.
Short and sweet, I enjoyed Modifying them, "Pretty Fast"
And Have 5 prototypes waiting for BSRT Armatures for 13 months now.
So that I could race them at Nitro Slot,
Having no idea about rules at that time.
The Dream of Creativity and Art of me building Personalized modified racing Drag cars,
Went out then door ๐ช
Left me Discouraged and Very Sad,
Finding that part of the Bigest enjoyment for me, was building and creating.
As I prepared for JJ's race I found myself realizing there were so many rules that I could not even build a car with part i had laying around,
having to spend $$'s that i did not have and trying to order parts
That never came, and part of them were back ordered.
The order from Wizzard for $265.00 along with a vintage slot car collection of Tyco Pro Brass Pans, hard to ever replace misplaced by the US Postal service on the same day ๐ค a Coincidence not it is happened many times.weeks of manager run around.
All and all not in time for JJ's Event
and still not having all the part needed for the builds,
When receiving the Polymer mangets the rules said i needed were junk and nothing i would never wast my time putting in a 2.4 or 2.5 ohm armature Especially a high end armature.
These are the slot car parts companies I ordered parts from for Jeff's and Daves race.
โ Garry & Nicky @ Scale Auto,
โ Terry Flynn @ Harden Creek,
โ Cheryl & Bob @ Wizard
โAnd Lucky Bob,"I like Him and His Wife"
I had cars ready for JJ'S
I found myself texting Jeff to many questions, the fun and joy was going away,
And i only sent a 4 gear and my Air Force Willie's. And ended up buying a Jag chassis for the AF Drag Rod,because parts never came, and not because I did not Allow enough time for parts to come,Jag chasis leaving me in last place for Qualifying except Darg Mate Woodcote-with a blown crown gear, must have had some serious Juice behind that crown gear,
Sound like it would have been in the winners ๐ Circle if it had metal gears.
So thats last place for me with that Jag.
I spent on that race near $400. In parts trying to build what the Rules we requiring of me,
The joy of using my mind was almost gone and my excitement of thinking and building Monster ๐น Drag cars was almost gone,
For me Drag racing is
"THE NEED FOR SPEED"
for a time I thought to find a circuit that would let me race what I created,
I even sent Dave Photos of Go Cart Drag Racing,
Hoping he would be interested in doing this with me.
So as i have found so much friendship with many of you,
I found my friendship to out way legalistic rules,
Don't take that statement wrong there are classes that are for everyone like those who want to race and don't want to build a car,
Great to have something for every one like Index Racing ๐
Or straight out of the box TJ Style cars.
This is important so that we can Welcome others to be part of this very enjoyable times togeather.
I have in life thought of Rules as Guide lines in life.
I do like Unlimited Racing.
Also Dave did get me interested in Gasser Pancake Comp T-Jet 18v
At Gale's
Good Time Speedway;.
KGC Upgrades got me hooked on 4Gear Outlaw racing at
JJ's Bear Creek Dragway North Texas.
Al Pink has helped me understand the importance of not losing the enjoyment of racing.
Rick and Jeff thank you for Gifting me such wonderful slot car bodies.
Skillet you keep things a bit spicy and fun,๐ค are you ๐ฎ๐น Italian.
Growing in all areas of Nitro Slot is a Good Exspreance, as time goes on i have lurned why there are guidelines in different
classes,
Maybe a little flexibility should be considered.
Wish for more Unlimited Classes
Like a 1ohm Unlimited class.
And a 2.4 ohm Unlimited class
Thank you all for such a great welcome.
