I did not have a productive day as far as the ardiuno goes. Kept getting an error to do with fastled. I did have some fun time on the rc track. Will deal with the ardiuno tomorrow. One of the problems, I am using a rather old laptop and it is extremely slow. but then so am I. I really did not want to spend the money on a new laptop, but I may have too.

I think the old computer is just fine. The R2d2 kind of upgrades the computer anyway. I had slot racer 2000 for my road course. I couldn't get it to work on a newer computer at all. Had to get the old slow.
That computer got wet and died. So I ended up with Mrs Skillet old laptop so I went this route. If it all works im going to put race coordinator on my road course.
Note : for anyone following along that is thinking about doing this.
When you order your ardinuo (how ever you spell it) do some research on a kit. I jumped the gun and thinking I should have got a kit. I have now seen some kits that have reed switches, photo cells, infra red, comes with wire jumpers and led lights. They even have little screens one could add to show times and things anywhere you want. I'm no where close on knowing how to do it, but I do see it can be done easier than I ever imagined.

I can also see a couple ford starter solenoids coming in handy and a few relays. My garage just keeps finding its way into my basement day by day.

This problem occurs if you use an Arduino Uno. The sketch is set up for an Arduino mega. If you do use the Uno the mistake in the sketch is the assignment of the analog pins. Someone has put A6 as an output but of course the Uno only goes to A5 so just needs to be changed. You can also change the count from 4 to 6 (A0 to A5) to give you maximum pins to use. Hope this helps. Alan

SJ i will post pictures of everything I do as I go along. I was just getting familiar with everything I have gathered up last night. As far as wire to the sensors and everything I was planning on just using some bell wire (phone cable). I hate to keep being a thorn in Gales side but maybe if we ask him nicely he can add those links in here of what he ordered. I got everything he suggested. I can't figure out how to add the link in my post. Depending if you want to go crazy or not will answer if you need a uno or mega ardiuno. I got the mega mainly because I wanted to stick with everything Gale has incase I run into a problem. I need to play around alot more but it looks like there's a couple ways to support a tree. I have an autoworld tree im thinking of using. I would just need one sensor in only one lane. When the car hits it it will trigger the tree. It appears that you can do separate tree lights and things any way you want really.it does have a red light option from what I can see incase someone jumps the light. Reading some of the programing it looks like you could put lights all the way down the track and as the car passes each light could turn on to look like night under fire at Norwalk dragstrip. Im definitely wanting to make a jet powered looking semi for that:-)You can even put different sensors to make different noise or even turn a radio on. The guy that made race coordinator also seems willing to help anyone out that may get hung up on something they are trying to pull off. Mrs Skillet is wanting some fireworks at the end for the winner. Ill probably have to get in touch with him for that lmaooooo. Links for the DRC Software: - Download software here. - A forum where RC & DRC software is discussed can be reached here. Links concerning Arduino: - The current Arduino Mega that I am using is at this link. - Also got this hdwe because it made hook up easier for me, link. - Also re-installed this type of wire a couple months back and so far, a lot less timing glitches have occurred, link. - Arduino website where you can download their software and has lot's of 'how to', link. Links to other hardware used: - Lights to trigger sensors, link.
If I come up with more, I will edit this post .

Those lights are the same ones I use on my track, I used 12. I did switch to LEDs where there was only light needed. The LEDs will not activate the sensors like the incandescent bulbs do. I did build some Gantry's which I still use for a couple of the sensors.

Thank you for adding the links Gale.
I hit a snag with mine when trying to put drc in arduino. I first got a screen saying drc needs to be in schetch folder. When I try it just says failed to move.ha ha ha. Then I mashed buttons for a while. Now when I try it says I need to use version 1.0.0.0 I can't even find a version 1.0.0.0 . When I go to the ardiuno side of things it says with the mega you shouldn't need to download anything its through wifi. I'm gonna go back and mash some more buttons see if I can figure it out.
I watched a YouTube video and heard someone say ardiuno. Wow I was saying that all wrong.
Even though I'm having a hard time setting it up don't be discouraged. Im 100% computer illiterate. On the same note the more I read the more ideas I'm getting or dreams maybe. I think if we can get this ardiuno down, we could build a hand controller out of it.

You know Dave with the lights im not sure but the more I think about it you could probably use headlight bulbs off a car I imagine. Almost free from a junkyard.

Mike im not sure lol. But im reading it says go in your library and install or Uninstall a program that says fastleds from the library. I see for some it needs fastleds in the library and for some fastleds in library messes it up.

And for those who like pictures of our adventure. I decided to see if there was anything in old and slow I could use. Some interesting things in there.

Don't know what any of it does but you can definitely see the ardinuo in the computer board

Also dissected the mouse. It has 2 sensors you could probably use.
