They found R2D2 Mike. Usps just delivered. I was starting to get worried lol. I'll try and get started on mine this week and post up how it goes good or bad. That thing sure is smaller than I imagined. Skillet

The timing is perfect. I have DRC loaded on my (old slow laptop) along with the adruino software. I need to get the drc sketch(program) on the adruino. I have a friend at the rc track who is a computer tech and will help me with that tomorrow. I all ready have the sensors(opto resistors) installed in one lane of the track. I am in the process of making up some light bars. Thats it for now Sam.

Nice. Im going to download that ardinuo stuff on mine now. See if I can catch up a little.

Did you get to this part Mike (see picture)? ... is this the sketch program you were talking about? Or the sketch program on the ardinuo site. Looks like you could add 1 sensor in the shut down to one lane only and when the car passes it will do a lane rotation so your ready when you come back from getting the cars. Im liking this lights option to. If I can get it figured out. Hey Gale I was wondering after you figure your wires out with the drc map (I guess will call it). Is that where the problem came in trying to get the ardinuo to take it ? I know im asking questions early

The sketch is what adruino calls the program or code that you load into the uno or mega that allows the adruino to interface between the drc and the sensors.

To get to the sketch. From drc main page, click on file, then click on "show install directory" ,click on data and then adruino. At this point is where i become desloted. As i had mentioned earlier i am heading to the rc track with my laptop and my uno where i have friends that are younger and much more computer savvy.

. . . . . . Hey Gale I was wondering after you figure your wires out with the drc map (I guess will call it). Is that where the problem came in trying to get the ardinuo to take it ? . . . . I wound up having to load the "Arduino Software" available here , onto my computer (a very small program), that assisted me in loading the DRC sketch onto the Arduino module.

I went and got those lights to. Looks like lots of work on the way Exact same lights I use, they have worked flawlessly for me and they are set up approximately 30" to 34" above the track sensors.

As i had mentioned earlier i am heading to the rc track with my laptop and my uno where i have friends that are younger and much more computer savvy. Once the DRC sketch is loaded onto the Arduino module, you should be able to go to "Track Setup" then "Expert Track Setup". That brings up a small window where you can enter track name & track scale. You will want to have the track scale at "1" to get actual times. I think you want to set up the "Lane" tab also. In the "General" tab, you can click "configure". That opens another window where you connect to the correct com port (the Arduino Software should tell you which port it connected to). Also, in this window another little window pops up telling you some crap about an incompatible sketch version, just click "OK" and move on. Kind of important when making any changes that you go back to the "Track Manager" window and click "update". Back to the "Configure" window, you want to pick which Arduino module you have and then you can go to the "Digital" tab and set up your sensors.
Hope some of this helps .

This is extremely interesting and although I have a timing system could you post everything you have ( i.e. necessary parts/links) and are planning in this post. I've seen past posts of you discussing this project. Timing systems are expensive and it's always good to have an alternative to Trackamte. Will it be able to run an external tree?

Man Gale everything you tell me helps. Especially the courage you put in me to even attempt this lol. I stayed up way to late last night learning about R2d2(ardiuno) but I think I'm comfortable enough to move ahead now.

SJ i will post pictures of everything I do as I go along. I was just getting familiar with everything I have gathered up last night. As far as wire to the sensors and everything I was planning on just using some bell wire (phone cable).
I hate to keep being a thorn in Gales side but maybe if we ask him nicely he can add those links in here of what he ordered. I got everything he suggested. I can't figure out how to add the link in my post.
Depending if you want to go crazy or not will answer if you need a uno or mega ardiuno. I got the mega mainly because I wanted to stick with everything Gale has incase I run into a problem.
I need to play around alot more but it looks like there's a couple ways to support a tree. I have an autoworld tree im thinking of using. I would just need one sensor in only one lane. When the car hits it it will trigger the tree. It appears that you can do separate tree lights and things any way you want really.it does have a red light option from what I can see incase someone jumps the light.
Reading some of the programing it looks like you could put lights all the way down the track and as the car passes each light could turn on to look like night under fire at Norwalk dragstrip. Im definitely wanting to make a jet powered looking semi for that:-)You can even put different sensors to make different noise or even turn a radio on.
The guy that made race coordinator also seems willing to help anyone out that may get hung up on something they are trying to pull off.
Mrs Skillet is wanting some fireworks at the end for the winner. Ill probably have to get in touch with him for that lmaooooo.
