The lid has a slight bump out on it. I use that to put my magnets up against so they should be dang near the same spot when I measure. So did you just glue the strips on sideways? and why the 2 holes in the middle of the plastic?

Yep just super glue the metal strips on. Did you get the metal plate off the deck. I took my batteries out and under the sticker was a couple screws. I really don't think you need to do all that. Just pry up slow on the corner and it will come off.
The hole closest to the deck is for standard I guess length of slot car such as tjet, tyco, xtraction ext...
The other hole is for 4gear chassis. Most of my guide pins have been switched to metal pin style instead of the flag style guide pin, so I can use this easier. Otherwise you probably want to make a slot instead of two holes if you want to use the flag style. You could just take the guide pin out ,but I prefer having them in the holes.

On the 4gear if you use the first hole the back wheels sit on that bump out on the cover. To keep everything closer in measurement I just rolled the four gear chassie off the bump out and that's how you know where to put the hole.
Same thing on other chassis to find where to put hole.
Note ; leave yourself room for big tires. If you measure distance with small tires and make hole, you will be mad when you go to measure with big tires and they are jacked up on the bump out.

I'm using the cover to measure the rail. You can cut the rail easy with scissors. Just make them long enough to not pass the bump out. Where going to make something out of the bump later.

Looks like I drilled the holes right into the scale. I don't remember doing that but the guide pin must hit it.
