The rules for rat rod say:
GEARS: Stock JL/AW gearing only. After market lightweight gears, or billet type gears, are not permitted. Gears may be polished and ‘lapped’ but polishing may not excessively lighten the gears. Plastic gears may be used. Crown gears may be aftermarket of same tooth count as original.
does that mean we can only use JL/AW gears? Can I use aurora driven and drive pinion gears?

yes any aurora gears are ok. What are banned are high priced 'specialty gears.' If you prefer the original aurora gears feel free.

Ok here's another one for the rules committee. Are we allowed to lengthen the wheel base to get the desired look of the car? I'm not talking about making it into a dragster or anything. I'm looking at less than 5/16 on an inch. The rules say, "Axles must ride in appropriate location for given body style." What is the appropriate location for a custom car? Here are a couple of pictures to explain what I mean.

I would say we are 'buying' this one. Extended wheelbases are permitted.......we will come up with a max wheelbase very shortly.......until then, if you guys stay close to this length you will have no problem. Ratt Rodd is intended to be a free imagination area within reason. What we would like to avoid is an endless cycle of longer wheel bases, then bigger bodies begetting still longer wheelbases. Avoid funny car appearances and no dragsters (or RAIL-TYPE (appearing) and we are on the same page.
Now if you could employ some 'spats'....some kind of hood sides to cover the chassis we would be doubly delighted! (You young guys go look up 'spats'.. and no we weren't alive when they were popular !)
