I suggest going with a 14 ohm minimum on the armatures. That opens it up a little but will leave the faster stuff out. Will braids be needed? I think if we use braids on the pick up shoes then we might have some floppers, that is without the use of wheelie bars. I think just to make it easier on the host.... that we leave the braids off this go around. Scott, I'll start a entry list to see what kind of response there is and then Matt can decide on a date. You know Matt, after you get your feet wet with this event, we are going to expect your track to be on the NTRA schedule next year Anybody up for running stockers at Matt's? If anybody is curious, Auto World does have a Funny Car 4 gear car out. All you'll have to do to make it legal is remove the traction magnets. I also have Funny Car bodies for anybody that is running this event. You'll just have to come up with you own mounting post. $4 to cover shipping and handling and I'll send one out to you. PM me for a list of them.

Hey all,
I just got done making some test runs on a 4 gear magnatraction chassis. All runs were made with no body on the chassis. I used the same chassis for the whole test and only changed the gear plate and arm. I ran on both 13.8v and 25.6v.
here you go:
13.8v / 25.6v 15'2"
red arm/red wire 1.273 /.921 15/15/15.1 ohm
red arm/gold wire 1.266 / .917 15.8/15.9/16 ohm
blue drag arm 1.189 / .920 w/front end hop 7.2/7.2/7.3 ohm
mean green 1.127 / .908 w/front end hop 5.6/5.6/5.6 ohm
The only tuning that i did was to try different style pick-up shoes. The long step AFX shoes made every combination hop. The flat Magnatraction shoes didn't hop but they were the slowest. The shoes that i got these times with were the short step shoes. They were the fastest and no hop at 13.8v. The rear tires were the low profile specialty tires. They measure .545" tall.

Do you all want to run Afx only, AW only or both together? I've never run an AW 4 gear so I don't know how they compare to the Afx. The AW chassis would be easier to mount a body on. The Afx doesn't have the mounting ears on the chassis, but that isn't a biggie.
Sam, I'll get Derwood's son Fordman to drive the slower cars, that kid can really cut down the tree. ;D
I'm also thinking maybe 1 car per class this time. I don't want it to get too confusing for my first time.

Both sounds good to me. I'll see about picking up an AW chassis and do some more testing. Last night, just for fun, I put a set of AW magnets in the car that I was testing. With the red arms it was slower but with the Mean Green it was about the same on 13.8v but on 25.6v it was just a little faster.

Other than e-bay, I haven't found complete chassis for sale. Jag hobbies has the parts to build a rolling chassis.

ok, proxy racing - is it just a matter of posting your prepped car to the host? I'd expect to pay return post too!
Funny thing is, if I bought a new one, it'd come here from the US, then back to you guys, then back here to Oz lol
I do have one AFX 4 gear here though, but no tyres.. and a van body haha

Just to clairify... are these going to run box stock, or are we changing magnets, arms ect. out of the box is probably easy to make rules for. Just want a level playing field if I am going to enter. DOG
I added this later.... if we are mixing orignal 4 gear with auto world, there 2 types of orignals I believe the ones with afx arms, and the ones with the Blue drag arms. Don't know about the AFX arms but the Blue Drag arms are around 7 OHM's and I believe the magnets were diffrent as well.
Don't mean to make this complicated...Really.

I thought it would be stock except tires and brushes. I think any factory type pick-up shoe would be fine also.
With the different armatures available in the AFX chassis, I agree with Sam that we should limit the arms to 14 ohm. That would make any AW arm legal and almost any magnatraction arm legal.
