One of Lions Drag Strip's roaming reporters got this spy shot of Hairy Canary's top secret NF/C, along with its lavish, high-tech transporter. With the GM plant in the background, I'm guessing this was taken at the site of the famous Fremont Drag Strip (RIP). I invited hairycanary to Lions to drive in the NTRA Finals, but he's going to Bakersfield for the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion to race a 1:1 Nostalgia Funny Car instead. How cool is that?! Cheers, Rick V. Thanks Sam. Thanks Ninja for entering me. Can't wait to put a car together to race. Lions will be my first if I can get something put together by then. Wish I could of made the test and tune. Just have to go untested. Hope to learn from everyone on Psycho Slots. Such a cool picture Rick. So where does the computers, air condition, spare motors and shop go on this transporter? Racers today have it made but I bet these guys had the most fun and have some great stories

Agreed! You haven't lived until you've done 48 hours straight from LA to Indy for the U.S. Nationals in a C-30 ramp truck, three people sitting side-by-side in the cab, living on truck stop coffee and candy bars. Then when you finally get to Indy, you sleep in the truck overnight in the tech line. Race for five days straight, get beat in the final round of class eliminations by a guy who's later thrown out for a big-inch engine, climb back in the truck, drive 48 hours straight to get home, and go back to work on Tuesday morning. We had such a great time doing this in '75 that we turned around and did it again in '76! What were we thinking? Geez, where did all the energy go? That pic of the Hairy Canary FC and hauler at Fremont brought back so many memories of the way it was . . . Thanks, Rick V. Nice story. So do you still get the same feeling dropping your toy cars off at the post office these days mailing them off to a NTRA proxy event? ;D

"OK, racers, it's time to load up the transporters and head out to Lions Drag Strip for test 'n' tune for the NTRA Finals. Here's the destination:
Rick Voegelin 2130 Hames Rd. Aptos, CA 95003
Be sure to mark your entry numbers clearly on each car, include your return address, any pre-run instructions, and your entry fee ($7 for three cars, $1 for additional cars, plus any insurance you specify)."

NTRA Finals test 'n' tune was run on Sept. 17. Qualifying for NTRA Finals is on Oct. 16, final eliminations on Oct. 17. Send your entries early, because if they don't arrive at Lions Drag Strip on time, we're gonna race without you. Send to: Rick Voegelin 2130 Hames Rd. Aptos, CA 95003 Entry fee is $7 for first 3 cars, plus $1 for each additional car. If you want insurance for return mail, specify the amount and include the cost. Mark your entry number clearly on each car, include your real name as well as your screen name with return address. Be sure to include any pre-race instructions -- otherwise we'll clean the tires, warm 'em up, and stage 'em. Thanks, Rick V. you mean for the race, test and tune already happened right?
