I missed that as well.....or at least read it wrong. I am using notched now anyway, but was going to try some flat brushes. Oh well I guess that's out the window. Thanks for posting. BRUSHES, MOTOR:Any conventional brush which fits original mountings is acceptable After-market brushes may be used. Springt brushes may be not be used. Brush tubes are not permitted Read more: nitroslots.com/thread/3316/#ixzz3HR300TwUThis is the rules on brushes that I read so maybe someone can help me with the rules before I send in my cars. Any brush stock or aftermarket...... Brush spring and spring brush two different tbings. Springs used as brushes not allowed. No coil springs, needs to be t-jet type plate spring as from mfg. ....... think this came up not long ago...... ....... Peter

Peter that's right, I forgot about using spring like brush (wet com stuff). Sorry, hope I didn't give anyone a panic attack. Works for me I will put my other brushes back in.

Rob, don't know if "wet comm" was actually considered. Think it is in reference to stretching spring and using it to contact comm. Never done this, seems comm life would be short.at best. Guess it has been done being mentioned in rules. Probably for drag application........ maybe for one event or just a pass.......lol. ...... Peter

Never heard of using the spring as a commutator brush. Does not seem like it would work very well.

Dave632, replacing motor brushes with pickup shoe springs was the single biggest advantage I discovered some 1/2 century ago for pancake motors. it does wear the comm out quickly and that is the reason folks are using lubricants on the spring setups now. thus the "wet comm". second to that is silver bearing brushes which Aurora made and were in Wild Ones and Tuff Ones along with being available across the counter. there are after market flat silver bearing brushes available occasionally currently. no one dabbles in them for long because there aren't enough race sanctions that allow them. and, of course, gearing is a whole nuther discussion

Yes the hardness of the spring seems like it would wear a comm quickly. Does not seem like such a small silver brush would be that expensive.
