Flat , I think counter sunk screws the best , pressure can be adjusted at joints. Since the first time doing it.... I've never set up a plastic.track without putting homasote between track and base.
Lewis , Cheap timing system can be made with stop watches & photo cells. Open watch tap into switch & ground. Switch leg to first photo cell, second leg of first cell to next photo cell and second leg to grd leg of watch.

Never thought of that one Peter, very good. I just added a fourth ET point to my track. It now has a 330' ET reading along with 60', 660' and 1000'. Now I am really confused.

Al I had to get the tape measure out since I did not remember. All rounded off a bit. 60' 11 1/4" 330' 5' 2" or 62" 660' 10' 3 3/4" or 123 3/4" 1000' 15' 7 1/2" or 187 1/2" Went with 1/64th scale which is what we all seem to use here. If you notice in the photo the 660 comes before the 330. I will have to move the sensors to get them in the correct location. Sure fills up the screen with info. This race was a good matchup with a slight edge going to the 68 Camaro.

what is amusing is the higher ET also had higher MPH. and I have seen that a lot in close races ET wise.

Dave, just for s#!+s n giggles i ran some numbers on your times and found the chevelle was spinning well into the 330' after the 330' it started making almost double the time back and that would be why you have a higher MPH on that side.
Chevelle - Camaro = Difference - Fluctuation .2411 - .2376 = .0035 -.0059 .1193 - .1099 = .0094 -.0100 .4314 - .4120 = .0194 -.0031 .6877 - .6714 = .0163 -.0016 .9141 - .8994 = .0147
The chevelle seems to be a faster car if it had better traction or more real estste. It was making time up for what it lost... Quick lol

I was trying to thing of a way to do it with a stop watch I dident think anything about the photo lens I actually was trying to rack my brain on hook in reed switches up to it but the photo cell seems like a much better idea. I will holler at you some more about this Peter when I get to that stage.

Did thing with watches a few years ago......... got 2 watches at Wal-Mart for like $10. -............ most cheap stop watches only read to hundreds.
What was the other thing.....
Found it....... RTV can be had in clear........."flowable" type for windshields........... can also be used to make silicone coated foam tires. Like the tires , Al mentioned. Foam tires glued to wheels , after curing silicone is rubbed into foam. Into not all over so tire has no lumps idea is to get it into poors of foam. Silicone sticks to silicone so next coat can seal and finish tire. Hard part (not really) is.getting glass smooth finish on tire. But thats a secret. Aw heck....... no it's not ! Before last coat of silicone put both wheels on axle. After coating with silicone (before it begins to set). Roll axle with both coated tires across a piece of glass coverd with water. Ever so slight pressure will push excess off to sides of tire where it can be removed without messing up finish.
Have something that will clip on to axle so it can be set aside for 24 hrs. to fully cure. Annnnnd it wouldn't hurt to flip it over after 15 min. (be on the safe side do it twice).

Al I have seen even bigger differences than that where the losing ET had 1-2 mph more speed at the finish. In those races it looks like the car in the lead has the brakes on. Flat, that is the interesting thing about having that kind of information. If you use it you can see where a particular car is picking up or laying down. This was part of a test session and the Camaro in that race ran 10 runs with a variation of 2 mph. The Chevelle varied about about 1.5 mph over a similar amount of runs. They went back and forth as far as who won the races, fairly even most of the time.

This really makes me want to make a track with a highspeed camera. I think it would be neat to watch and see just how far some cars spin until they hook.
Im still laughing about the gasket maker.

Dave, If all is equal between cars........ gears, arms, magnets, tires & so forth. One arm or the other may be better matched to the magnets. Times sound like one car is reaching max rpm before other. Which one is better matched (arm &mags). I don't know....... thats your job :-)........ lol. .......... Peter

Yes Peter, you are right there. I installed stronger magnets in one car and it slowed down. Put the weaker ones back in and it picked back up again. Matching the right magnets to a particular arm can be a real challenge some times.
