Rustoleum Aircraft Paint Stripper. It was like 6$ at O'Reilly Auto Parts. Dont use indoors and wear a mask its pretty nauseous. Wait the 15 minutes and i used a shop towel to get the paint off, some was stuck in the door, hood and trunk gaps i used the backside of an exacto knife to get that off and once youve got it all off wash the rag and car in hot water. Dont do it in the kitchen sink and make the wife mad, if the Mrs. aint happy aint nobody happy.
If you wait too long the paint will reharden and be twice as hard to get off, but dont jump the gun... wait the 15 minutes.
Hope this helps

Stripped the body, new wheels and tires. I mocked the front body mount but ive been having trouble making the rear. Im planning on painting it tomorrow, ill do a coat of chrome then a transparent orange pearl. Flat, remember seeing mention of rear tires being close to rails.... when pushing hubs & rubber tight to chassis round off inside portion or edge of tires. Will help keep off rails. ....... Peter

Even though it is snowing outside, i warmed up the garage and finished painting the 66 Nova. At first it seemed that the color that was picked out wasnt coming out the way i thought it would, but i realized that the paint was thin and almost transparent, after about 8 coats it came together and i like the color better than the green. The under coat i used was Rustoleum Chrome, i had an idea this color was going to need an undercoat as it appeared to be thin but i didnt realize just how thin it was. I then used a 1$ nail polish if you would like the color let me know, i then used Testors Enamel Thinner. All 3 were Enamel, if youre not familiar with paints Enamel is Oil Based meaning you will need a solvent to wash it off and Acrylic is water based meaning you only need water to clean up with, hot water preferably. You cant mix Enamels with Acrylics and if youre not sure how two paints may react to one another its best to do a test panel first. To paint the car the Chrome came in a rattle can, when painting something this small and you want a realistic look keep back and do many light coats, dust it on not covering the whole car and let that dry and repeat. Dont be too far back when dusting because the paint will dry mid air and leave your paint grainy and rough. After the Chrome fully dried i used an Iwata HP-TR1 air brush to paint the nail polish. This is an 800$ air brush and to get the same effects you dont need to spend that kind of money a lowes or walmart airbrush will be just fine, ive been airbrushing awhile and thats the gun i prefer. Keep in mind when layering coats you want to wait 1/4 to 1/2 the drying time depending on how wet the previous coat is... wait too long and your paint job will peel apart like a flaky bisquit, too soon and your paint will run or sag. If you have any questions feel free to ask, i know my way around a paint booth.

I finished up with details on the body, i wont be putting it on the chassis because i dont want to take a chance on fingering the paint with pressure. So ill have complete pictures in a couple of days. Flats 66' Nova I have to thank all of you for making the car possible, if it wasnt for your threads and your guidance and inspiration i dont think it would have come out as nice. So thanks to everyone thats helped me so far. I cant wait to make its first pass.

Thank You Sir, i agree it takes alot of patience, i honestly dont have it... but im very OCD and that helps with attention to detail. When painting i have to keep reminding myself not to touch but i get excited to see what the final product will look like. Ive got some cool ideas in my head... just looking for the right body.

LOL i use to do ALOT of airbrush work, everything from biker helmets, hoods for a man cave, baseball helmets, dashes to whole sides of cars. Air brushing is sort of a dying job, its expensive, its hard for most to understand WHY its so expensive and there arnt alot of people who are intensely into airbrushing as there were 20 years ago. Seems everything i love ive missed out on by being born so late lol. I still do it just as a hobby anymore for friends and family. All of the small details were hand painted, im thinking of building a cage to give it even more of a realistic look, i tried a dash... theres just not alot of room left under there lol
There will be more to come i plan on making alot of these chassis dual use and have a stocker and a funnycar body for each. But ill make a build thread, i dont feel posting them here would be appropriate. So keep your eye out.

Not a problem NoSub, dont mind answering any Qs. Paint Brand was " Sinful Colors - Professional " and it was an Enamel. I particularly love enamels for a couple reasons, it flows smoother, Enamels have an abundant array of special colors like Tri-Effects Pearls Chamelions and More, they take abuse well... where an acrylic will sometimes chip or peel off and they give models or slots or any vehicle that realistic shine as to an Acrylic will not be as shiny. Yes i thinned it, i used Testors ( square bottles of paint sold in the model isle of most stores ) Enamel Thinner, like i stated tho... i thinned it half/half... some of the pearls are transparent and are alot thinner than they appear, mix your bottle really good and pull the brush out and look at the paint. Does it appear thin? Does it drip a little when pulled out of the paint or just run off? Does it cover well? Sometimes if im in question of how thick the paint is i use whats called a color card or test card. Some have a black and white checkered pattern some go from white and fade to black either way the point of the card is to see how transparent paint is and how many coats it takes to cover ( black being the darkest ) you should see just your color and thats the ammount of coatings youll need. I can go on and on about paint thickness and fisheyeing and dryshooting and so on but it would be really lenghty and really just needs its own thread. Maybe when theres not a foot of snow outside ill do a how to. But back to the subjects.
An easy way to test your thickness is take a ball point pen and make a good thick mark across some white paper. Now take your nail polish and apply it how you plan to paint the car. If air brushing make one pass, if hand brushing ( i dont recommend ) make one stroke. Wait for that to dry, reason is paint appears diffrent not only in thickness but in color also when wet or dry. Count your passes/strokes and youve got a good idea, now if its some rediculous 12 strokes to where the paint is a blob before it covers... rethink your paint selection, too much paint will look horrid.
I ended up pouring out what i thinned because it was too thin, thinning paint too much is a no no... it will cause you problems down the road, runs can happen or even a sag as you spray your next coat, it comes from you applying thinner and paint to something trying to dry, it releases the coat underneath and now you have a problem. Its best just to take your time and wait.
GOOGLE is my friend, if i dont know how to do something i google it, if i need information i google it. After all... it led me here. :-)
If you cant google, message me what you need and ill run a search for you. Not a problem. And if you would like me to go more in depth on the paint send me a message and ill explain more.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask, i hope your pearl comes out amazing.
