I have had the same type problem with those little circle dots that we use to write the car numbers on for races. They always leave a residue like that. I have used alcohol on a Qtip and a light touch but you are right, that is a little harsh. Please post how the citrus cleaner works. Maybe something like Purple Power might work as well?? There is the risk of pulling paint off of a freshly painted surface but using tape itself to remove residue has worked for me at times.

Here’s another Nomad. This one made its second trip through the paint shop. 1st one didn’t turn out well. The flames are Testors flourescent pink. Which is brighter than the JL pink. The process here is opposite of most of my others, since the flames were masked off and the black applied over them. For the others the flames were painted over a base color. Was hoping it would pop a little more. Looks like it needs something but not sure what. Still need to detail the headlights and headers, maybe the grill too. Another coat or two of clear are in order as well.

Nice work Bill, are you making your own decals? I would like to try to make some of my own decals. Where are you getting yours?

To follow up on the sticky residue issue: The citrus based solvent removes the gummy stuff but it also dissolves the paint. It removed both water based Createx Pearl and Pactra oil based spray. Did not have much effect on the factory Johnny Lightning paint or white Testors air brush paint that was used for a base coat under the pearl. It may have a use touching up boo boos. Still hoping to find something to remove to the goo without damaging the paint.

Forgot that they were cleared prior to customizing.

Thru the years, I've had success using a little heat when peeling the sticker, the adhesive will most generally come off with the sticker after a little heat has been applied. The sooner, the better. Being in the sign trade for 50 years, I've removed a lot of adhesive and citrus based removers have always worked well on automotive factory finishes and most clear coats, although it will deteriorate a rattle can finish in a hurry. Alcohol will work but involves a bit of minor scrubbing which will effect the surface also.

Heat works well for removing automotive trim like body moldings. Would hesitate to use much heat on our slots, since melting one down when attempting to do minor reshaping. Started thinking last night that heat my be a major factor in my problem. Often I’ll put the bodies under a clip on light to assist with drying. Heat from the lamp my be causing the adhesive to stick to the paint. Will try a few without the lamps to see what happens. Maybe we should ban the use of those?? Thoughts?Jeff, Looks like you edited my post. Scratching my head, thinking, "I don't recall writing that?" BTW, never cared for the little stickers but figured they were a necessary evil, to help the race host keep tabs on things.

I personally am not putting those on anybody's cars anymore and I am requesting that they not be put on mine. This has proven to be a real pain in the a** to get that residue off.

Here’s what happened when I tried cleaning the sticky residue with citrus cleaner. Flames were sprayed white 1st then pearl pink. Cleaner took the pink off pretty quick. Kinda like the effect so just went with it. An accidental good process. btw, tried using painters tape to remove sticky stuff. It works pretty well, not 100%, but did not harm paint. Wondering if a little heat from clip on lamps might improve results
