Well here's my progress so far on trying to cast. Been conversing with Jeff via PM's and he has squared me away on a few things . Still tons to learn but am pretty jazzed to actually be trying to do it. The following photos are some of the steps. Don't think I'll have time to try casting resin into the mold today but certainly tomorrow .
A couple pics before pouring the mold.
Fresh out of the pressure pot. 60#'s for 24 hours.
Mold box removed.
Originals taken out of the mold.
I know, it's just blowers and a chute, but had to start somewhere . 🤔 Very precision workmanship, A Watchmaker/Jewler skills

Thanks Mike!
Randy was nice enough to PM me with some tips and advice on trying to eliminate some of the pits and stress marks in the metal body, that he noticed. I did what I could, got rid of about 80% of it. Prepping these die cast bodies seems to be the hardest part for me but am getting a little better thanks to all the help. If I can do better with each project, I'm happy . Far from high quality but I'm callin' these puppies ready to spray and pour . My vacuum pot isn't big enough to mix for both without making a huge mess so will be doing one, cure and then the other. Hope to have casting results Tuesday or Wednesday. I have no idea if the engine/front mount is gonna turn out but got my fingers crossed .

Thanks Alpink!
First half poured, ready for 2nd half.
Both molds, both halves ready for clean up and then a trial cast.
The first casting turned out okay. All the pieces fit together nicely. The front grille, engine and front mount assembly turned out great. I wish now I would have glued the rear bumper to the body and not cast it separate, oh well.
Will be pouring a mold for this one this coming week. Been wanting to do it for a while .

Awesome casting Gale. How do you like the mold boxes? I'm looking to get away from the Legos.

Awesome casting Gale. How do you like the mold boxes? I'm looking to get away from the Legos. I like the mold boxes, easy to take apart and put back together. I have it all labeled to insure it goes together the same each time. Don't know how long they will last as I'm already putting toothpicks in one of the screw holes on the one I've used the most (apart & together 6 times). I made 3 boxes at once, all the same size so have a little mileage left for more molds . I used the 1/2" MDO plywood because I had a bunch of scrap laying around. I waxed all the surfaces with Johnson's paste wax and with a light spray, they let loose easily. For me they seem easier to use than the legos but I still use the legos for small molds. I might get ambitious and pour some resin in all the screw holes, mold release on the screws and see if that gives me some more longevity. Long story, short, I like 'em .

Castings are looking good, pretty cool. My boxes are acrylic .40" thick. They are held together with duck tape. They ain't fancy but they last for years. Just a little fresh duck tape and good to go. They have a little seepage in the corners, but no big deal.

Great castings Gale, I just love that van body. Old vans really have a great look. Thanks Comet! Thanks Mazda, the 33 Willys van is ready to clay up. Will be my next casting project. It will have separate glass & engine accessory for it. Still jonesin' to do a 53 Studebaker slammer body, hopin' to start it after the van is done .
