Great castings Gale, I just love that van body. Old vans really have a great look. Thanks Comet! Thanks Mazda, the 33 Willys van is ready to clay up. Will be my next casting project. It will have separate glass & engine accessory for it. Still jonesin' to do a 53 Studebaker slammer body, hopin' to start it after the van is done . Gale I would love to have a '33 Willys Panel and a '53 Studebaker if possible.....purchase...trade?? I like the updates. Keep'em coming

Dang Jeff! I am honored, to say the least! I am trying to get enough of a variety of bodies cast to help sponsor your race in September, Jeff, so will definitely be sending a bunch at that time, maybe some sooner. Had a good day with the clay today. That part is getting easier .
The clay went faster today.
Ready to pour the first of a 2 part mold.
And here's the front & back glass plus the original engine accessory. It'll be a 2 part mold also. Can't figure out a good way to do it with just 1 mold .

Gale looking good. I cast that same 33 Willy’s years ago and never did anything with it and forgot about it. I was looking through some junk the other day and got it out and was playing around with it like I wanted to maybe finish it😁 That panel was one I got the body stripped but never casted it. That’s going to make a cool gasser. Can’t wait to see when it’s done. www.flickr.com/gp/127949810@N04/62c4NuRick

Thanks Rick! Appreciate seeing the casting of your Willys coupe. One can definitely tell your body was stripped, the detail is awesome! I've been lax on stripping these two Willys bodies because I have such a bad time finishing it up for casting, for one reason or another . Seeing yours has given me incentive to give the stripping another whirl and be a little more ambitious . I really enjoy the casting process, just seem a little lame on the prep part at present. Gonna keep trying though ! In the hope that some day a body will turn out like I envisioned it . That would be sweet!
Thanks again to everyone for all the tips and encouragement .

Gale, compared to some of the stuff I see being pedaled on eBay, your castings are just fine! keep up the good work

Al’s right. Yours are better than a lot of what is on eBay.
You’ve become proficient at casting very quickly.

Thanks Al ! Thanks Bill ! You know how it is, one always tries to do better as they struggle along . And just to give credit where credit is due: thanks to Jeff's great tutorial that starts here and goes for 3 or 4 pages. That's what started my addiction. And thanks to Randy and Rick for their continual sharing of knowledge and encouragement!

First casting on the 33 Willys Panel Van. The body came out good. The accessories leave a little to be desired . Front glass has a small little casting seam in it, will be easy to sand out. The rear glass tab that glues to the inside roof is fragile and breaks off when removing from the mold, still very usable. The blower & intake lean to the front for some reason but will be able to remove some of the bottom so it sits right. Overall . . . . . pleased .
Was so impressed with the stance of Rick's 33 Willys coupe, decided to adjust mine to look similar. Removed about a tenth of an inch off both the front & rear mounts, a lot nicer I think.
And, here's some pics of the main tools I've been using for the molding and casting process:
The vacuum pump I got off ebay, works flawlessly, only gets used to pull the air out of the mold silicone. A scale I've had, use it to measure/weigh the mold casting ingredients (and race cars ). The ratchet has a socket I modified to fit the turn keys on the pressure pot, works good.
My vacuum chamber, a thrift store pressure cooker. It's a little small, I have to throttle the valve on it to keep from making a mess but it works. Once the thrift stores open back up, I'll be on the hunt for a larger one. It only gets used in the mold making process.
And the pressure pot, a Harbor Freight item. Works great! Use it for both the silicone mold casting and the resin casting.
This is what's been working for me .

Thanks again Al ! This forgetfulness thing must be all the rage lately . Was casting today and forgot to stir the resin after measuring it out, went ahead and poured it in the molds and put them in the pressure pot. Came back after an hour or so, pulled 'em outta the pot and found a big mess. Set 'em aside, went and had lunch and thought about how I mighta' ruined the molds. After lunch I squirted some alcohol on the molds, scrubbed with a stiff nylon brush. Used some q-tips to finish. Came out good as new, just got done pulling some body's and they turned out as they should. I was bummed earlier but counting my blessings now . Hope some time passes before I do that again .

no worries! at least you haven't forgotten to use mold release when making and pouring the second half of the silicone rubber mold! let me tell you, that is a nightmare and might require destroying the mold to get the master out. been there done that have the t-shirt and the hat

Gale both your Willy’s come out awesome. Both of those bodies are really narrow and both tough to fit the 4 gear chassis. To help cheat a little bit you can put the body in hot water and pull the sides apart slightly to clear the chassis better. And as for a vacuum pot I have always used my pressure pot for both. I have a couple of added quick release fittings for the different gauges to take off and replace with a different application. It’s worked great for me and you only have the one pot to deal with. And I haven’t used mold release to cast the bodies for a long time. It was getting expensive plus I was having some issues. The molds with really fine detail don’t last as long without the mold release. But I think I still get 25 - 30 pops per mold. I use vaseline and a little paint thinner mixed for the rubber to rubber. And I brush the entire inside of the female mold before I put the body in to pour the second half. That mold rubber will flow into the tiny of spaces. And if it does it pretty much ruins your mold. Like Al said I’ve forgot to put release between the rubbers a time or two along with a whole lot of other goof ups. And stripping the paint and chrome gives you a little more detail. If you think about it if you don’t strip the paint or chrome then after you cast it then you paint that casted body with primer, paint and clear it really covers most of the detail. These are things that I’ve been doing. It doesn’t mean it’s right or good but it’s works for me. Most of the time😁 And if you are looking for a body or a part to cast let me know. If I got it your more them Welcome to anything I have. It’s good to see your having a good time casting and doing a awesome job.
Rick
